Adventure World LIGHT PARKS 2026 is a separate evening experience in Shirahama, not simply an extended day at the zoo. Its first 2026–2027 season combines illuminated animal sculptures, interactive challenges and observation of real animals in Fureai Plaza. The ticket also includes evening Ferris-wheel and carousel rides, without requiring ordinary daytime admission if you arrive for the night session only.
The key choice is between two areas. LIGHT PARKS focuses on light installations and family activities; the separately ticketed Night Safari is a walking experience in Safari World. Both operate from 17:00 to 19:30, but they have different calendars and one ticket does not automatically include the other.
LIGHT PARKS 2026: Dates, Hours and Admission
The first season runs from October 24, 2026–March 31, 2027, with 97 LIGHT PARKS operating days excluding closures. From January 4 to March 19, 2027, it runs only on weekends and Japanese public holidays, not every evening within that date range.
| Item | LIGHT PARKS | Night Safari |
|---|---|---|
| Area | Fureai Plaza | Safari World |
| Hours | 17:00–19:30 | 17:00–19:30 |
| First season | October 24, 2026–March 31, 2027; 97 dates | Same overall season; 64 dates |
| Adult admission | ¥1,800, including seniors aged 65+ | ¥2,500 for everyone aged four and over |
| Younger visitors | ¥1,000 from age four through high school | ¥2,500 from age four |
| Ordinary day admission | Not needed for the night session alone | Not needed for the night session alone |
LIGHT PARKS is scheduled daily during October 24, 2026–January 3, 2027 and March 20–31, 2027, subject to park closures. Night Safari mainly operates on weekends and holidays, with daily holiday runs listed for December 26, 2026–January 3, 2027 and March 20–31, 2027. Check the operating calendar and your actual ticket date together.
The LIGHT PARKS ticket calendar releases dates in phases. A month not yet available for selection is not necessarily cancelled or sold out. Night tickets allow park entry from 17:00; entering earlier requires appropriate daytime admission.
A Five-Metre-Plus Arch, Colour-Changing Birds and Animal Quests
LIGHT PARKS combines sculptures, living animals and interactive exploration. A Magic Arch over five metres high introduces illuminated moose, giraffes, hummingbirds and a unicorn. Touching the hummingbird installation changes its colours, while a hippopotamus-themed projection effect is separate from viewing an actual living hippo.
NIGHT ANIMAL QUEST invites visitors to follow illuminated footprints and investigate animal questions. Other installations turn your movements into colourful shadows. With children, trying a couple of responsive activities before stopping for wide-angle photographs can make more sense than attempting every picture spot first.
The animal programme includes Asian small-clawed otters, African penguins and Parma wallabies among the real animals. Weekends, holidays and the New Year period add hippos, capybaras and separately paid hippo feeding. Animal welfare and weather can change the programme, so no particular animal encounter is guaranteed every evening.
Some promotional images are explicitly illustrative. They explain the concept rather than guarantee a photograph you can reproduce. Giant pandas are not available to view at the park, an important distinction for anyone remembering older Shirahama itineraries.
Included Rides Are Not an All-Park Pass
A LIGHT PARKS ticket includes unlimited evening rides on the Ferris wheel and carousel. That makes it useful for families wanting both illumination and a small selection of rides, or visitors keen to see the lit park from above.
The inclusion is specific to those two attractions. It does not make all rides, animal feeding or Night Safari free. Queues and operating arrangements still matter before the 19:30 finish; unlimited rides do not guarantee time for both at the end of the session.
On November 7, 2026, the separate Adven Night event takes place in the park. The surrounding environment may differ from an ordinary night. Admission to that social event is not automatically included in a LIGHT PARKS ticket. Families seeking a more typical evening can compare another available date.
Night-time food outlets are part of the announced offering, but meals and extra animal experiences are not included merely because you hold an evening ticket.
Night Safari: Walking, Keeper Talks and Optional Feeding
Night Safari is a walking visit, not a ride on the daytime Kenya train. It features approximately fifteen herbivorous and carnivorous species, including giraffes, rhinos, zebras, takin, lions and white tigers, with keepers explaining behaviour at observation points. Actual animal availability can change.
The route also enters a carnivore area not normally accessible on foot. Visitors must remain within the managed route; this is not permission to approach animals freely. A quiz uses black-light and night-scope clues, with an animal snack reward for answering all questions correctly.
| Optional Night Safari feeding | Published price and conditions |
|---|---|
| Snacks for Japanese deer, mouflon and similar animals | ¥200 |
| Giraffe snacks | ¥500 |
| Lion snacks, new for this edition | ¥500 |
| Payment and availability | Cash only; sales can stop when animals are full |
These are controlled feeding activities, not permission to bring your own animal food. Carry a little cash if interested, but do not build a rigid plan around completing every feeding option.
The Night Safari ticket information places reception at the walking exit by the Kenya train boarding area near the Ferris wheel. Safari World closes at 19:30. Rain does not automatically cancel the session; a lightning risk can trigger cancellation and the stated refund arrangements. Bring warm layers, rain protection and comfortable walking shoes.
Which Ticket Combination Makes Sense?
Both night experiences share the same two-and-a-half-hour window. If buying both, arrive ready for the opening and prioritize: fewer rides or fewer quiz stops may be necessary. A cheaper combination is not a promise that every activity fits.
| Adult combination | Published package | Separate total |
|---|---|---|
| LIGHT PARKS + Night Safari | ¥3,800 | ¥4,300 |
| Day admission + LIGHT PARKS | ¥6,600 | ¥7,100 |
| Day admission + both evening areas | ¥8,600 | ¥9,600 |
These are adult prices, not the day-package rates for children or seniors. For lights and the two rides, the ¥1,800 LIGHT PARKS ticket is sufficient. If your priority is nocturnal animal observation rather than illuminated sculptures, consider Night Safari alone.
Shirahama Access: Plan the Return Before Buying
Adventure World is at 2399 Katata, Shirahama, Wakayama. Allow approximately ten minutes by route bus from JR Shirahama Station and five minutes from Nanki-Shirahama Airport. Those journey times do not guarantee a bus after the 19:30 closing time. Check the actual evening timetable or arrange confirmed transport before choosing your date.
The Osaka-to-Shirahama transport guide helps with the longer journey. Staying locally can simplify a family visit; weigh the return journey against the next morning’s plans.
Drivers should not rely on an old flat parking price. From August 2026, ordinary-car parking costs ¥1,100–2,000 per day depending on the date. Do not assume evening admission includes free parking. The camera-based system issues no paper ticket: note the vehicle’s four-digit plate number and follow the payment instructions.
This is not Festa Luce at Wakayama Marina City, another separately ticketed event in a different location. The shared creative partnership does not make the tickets interchangeable. The Wakayama travel guide helps distinguish Wakayama City, Shirahama and Kumano when planning the wider trip.
FAQ
Do I need ordinary park admission for LIGHT PARKS?
No, if visiting only from 17:00 with the night ticket. Earlier entry needs daytime admission or the appropriate combination.
Does LIGHT PARKS include Night Safari?
No. Buy them separately or choose a combination. The Ferris wheel and carousel are included in LIGHT PARKS.
Are the lights open every winter evening?
No. January 4–March 19, 2027 is weekends and Japanese holidays only for LIGHT PARKS. Night Safari has its own calendar, and park closure dates also matter.
Are selfie sticks or drones allowed?
Selfie sticks and drones are prohibited inside the park, as is feeding animals your own food. Follow staff instructions when photographing animals.
Can I spend an entire evening in each area?
No. Both run from 17:00 to 19:30, not as consecutive sessions. Prioritize if visiting both.
Will I see giant pandas?
Giant pandas are not available to view at the park. Plan around the announced night programme and the animals available on the day.
