KBC FESTA de SANTA is the Fukuoka Christmas market for visitors who want a distinctive photographic setting rather than a checklist of every venue. More than 100 Santa figures gather outside Kihinkan, the historic former Fukuoka Prefectural Public Hall guesthouse. Some tower overhead; others wear sunglasses. Including the illuminated building behind them gives photographs a sense of Nishinakasu rather than an interchangeable Christmas backdrop.
The 2026 event runs from November 11 to December 25, with free admission. Keep three closing times separate: last food orders at 21:45, market closing at 22:00 and illuminations until midnight. A late photograph is not a late-dinner plan. Our Fukuoka Christmas market comparison helps place this venue alongside Hakata and Tenjin City Hall.
FESTA de SANTA 2026: dates and hours
The venue is the square outside the former guesthouse, at 6-29 Nishinakasu, Chuo Ward. This is not an exhibition inside the building.
| Item | Confirmed 2026 arrangement |
|---|---|
| Dates | November 11–December 25 |
| Weekdays | 17:00–22:00 |
| Saturdays, Sundays and Japanese public holidays | 12:00–22:00 |
| Last food orders | 21:45 |
| Illuminations | Until 24:00 |
| Admission and performances | Free; purchases cost extra |
| Rail access | About five minutes on foot from Nakasu-Kawabata or Tenjin-Minami |
A weekend afternoon suits families who want to examine the figures and browse crafts before darkness. On a weekday, either eat a substantial meal elsewhere first or arrive early enough to choose food without racing the last-order deadline. The venue opens a day before the Forest of Light in Tenjin Central Park, so November 11 is not an interchangeable opening date for both.
What makes the Santa display worth seeing?
More than 100 Santa figures give the square its distinctive character. Their different proportions, clothes and expressions are the attraction. Children can choose a favourite rather than being asked to pose with every figure.
Try a close view for the characters, followed by a wider composition showing the guesthouse and square. Move aside between photographs and return to busy spots later instead of blocking a route. Decorative Santa figures do not establish a live Santa meet-and-greet; any such interaction needs its own programme announcement.
The building adds genuine context. This two-storey wooden guesthouse in French Renaissance style was formerly used to receive distinguished visitors during the Meiji period and designated an Important Cultural Property in 1984. Visiting in daylight and returning after dark reveals two different aspects of the same place.
Food, gifts and the venue mug
Kihinkan has its own food and craft stalls. Use these examples to plan a snack and browse for gifts rather than assuming every Christmas Advent venue has the same menu.
| Listed stall | Published offering | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Pavilion Market | Mulled wine, beer, wine and hot soup | A warming pause; drivers should avoid alcohol |
| Prezel Hutte | Pretzels with savoury or sweet options, plus prosciutto pizza | A snack or something to share |
| REST REST REST | Roast chicken and fries with truffle salt and Grana Padano | A more substantial food stop |
| &mode | Handmade accessories, initial keyrings and aromatic candles | Small gifts |
| Edomacho | Work by Kyushu makers, including accessories and angel dolls | Locally created souvenirs |
These are published examples, not a guarantee that every item remains available throughout every evening. Ask the actual seller about ingredients or dietary requirements. The organizer prohibits bringing food and drink into or out of the event, so do not arrive carrying an outside takeaway or assume market food can be packed for your hotel.
The venue’s mug has a dark-green design with golden bells. Mugs are not sold separately: check the drink combination, price and availability before ordering. Listed payment options include credit cards, QUICPay, au PAY, d払い, Rakuten Pay, SUGOCA and nimoca; check the stall’s arrangements if relying on a particular method.
Going inside Kihinkan is a separate visit
Ordinary building hours are 09:00–18:00. It closes on Mondays, moving the closure to the following day when Monday is a holiday, and also from December 29 to January 3. Standard admission is ¥200 for adults and ¥100 for children under 15; children under six and people aged 65 or over enter free.
These rules belong to the building, not the outdoor market. Plan the interior visit in the afternoon, after checking that day’s opening. Do not finish a late illuminated walk and then expect to enter the museum or its café. Conversely, you do not need an interior ticket simply to see the outdoor Santas.
For an architecture-focused afternoon, visit the interior first, examine the figures around dusk and photograph the lit façade later. That is a more coherent experience than approaching the building only as a backdrop.
Getting there from Nakasu or Tenjin
Allow approximately five minutes on foot from Nakasu-Kawabata on the Airport and Hakozaki subway lines, or Tenjin-Minami on the Nanakuma Line. Choose according to your hotel and afternoon plans rather than making unnecessary transfers for a small theoretical saving. Our Fukuoka transport guide.
Nakasu-Kawabata works naturally for the Kawabata and Nakasu side of town. Tenjin-Minami suits an afternoon of Tenjin shopping. Navigate to the full Kihinkan forecourt name: searching only for “Tenjin Christmas market” may send you to City Hall instead.
For drivers, the underground Tenjin Central Park car park is open 24 hours, charging ¥200 per 30 minutes. The 17:00–07:00 period has a ¥1,000 maximum; 07:00–17:00 has no maximum. This is a parking option elsewhere within the park complex, not permission to drive into the Kihinkan square. Check posted terms. For a single central-city evening, the subway generally avoids parking and departure traffic altogether.
A practical evening without rushing
Allow roughly 60–90 minutes for photographs, one food stop and gift browsing, as a flexible planning allowance. If continuing to Tenjin Central Park, complete purchases before the relevant last-order times and leave unhurried photography for later. The circus at Central Park is not a performance at Kihinkan.
Families could pair an earlier Fukuoka Anpanman Museum visit with the market, rather than beginning an outdoor dinner after children are exhausted. The Nakasu hotel-area guide helps assess a nearby base.
Free performances do not mean seats can be reserved by leaving belongings: the organizer asks visitors not to occupy or hold places. Pets must be in a carrier bag, cart or cage. Walking them on a lead or carrying them directly in your arms is not accepted inside the event, even if ordinary park use follows different rules.
Frequently asked questions
Does the market stay open until midnight?
No. In 2026, stalls close at 22:00 and last food orders are at 21:45. Midnight is the illumination deadline.
Is a building ticket required to see the Santas?
No. Outdoor event admission is free. Entering the historic building is a separate paid visit with different opening hours.
Does the building’s Monday closure also close the market?
Do not transfer that rule to the outdoor event. The market announcement runs November 11–December 25 without the building’s weekly closure pattern.
Can I buy only the mug?
No. The organizer does not sell mugs on their own; check the drink combinations and stock on site.
Can I bring outside food?
The event rules prohibit bringing food and drink in or out. Eat elsewhere before entering or buy from the market stalls.
