Toyoda Gosei Rink at Oasis 21 offers an active alternative to simply walking past winter lights. The seasonal installation uses a synthetic skating surface in Galaxy Plaza, not a naturally frozen outdoor pond. It fits into a day of shopping and dinner around Sakae.
This guide records the completed 2025–26 season. The organizer’s website explicitly says operations ended on March 8, 2026. The new 2026–27 prices and hours are still pending. The figures below are historical budgeting context, not currently available tickets.
How does a rink without ice work?
The operator describes specially treated plastic panels with silicone wax to enable skating. Designated skates are still required; this is not a polished plaza that visitors enter in ordinary trainers.
The friction differs from ice, but that does not guarantee nobody will fall or make the activity suitable for every toddler. Beginners should follow staff instructions, adjust to the footwear and movement, then decide how long to continue. Avoid stopping abruptly in other skaters’ path for photographs.
Read the historical hours and ticket categories carefully
The 2025–26 rink ran November 29, 2025–March 8, 2026. Hours were 13:00–20:00 on ordinary weekdays and 10:00–20:00 on weekends, public holidays and the designated winter holiday, with final entry at 19:30. The holiday period was December 24, 2025–January 6, 2026, so weekday names alone did not determine the category.
| Historical 2025–26 ticket | Junior-high age and above | Elementary age and younger |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary weekday, same-day | ¥1,300 | ¥700 |
| Weekend/public/winter holiday, same-day | ¥1,500 | ¥700 |
| Ordinary weekday, advance sale | ¥1,000 | ¥600 |
| Weekend/public/winter holiday, advance sale | ¥1,200 | ¥600 |
Skate hire was included. That season’s advance sale ran November 8–28, 2025, and has ended. Do not expect those lower advance prices to be available for a last-minute visit.
The sponsor’s opening announcement identifies November 29–December 12 as a pre-opening period, followed by a ceremony at 17:45 on December 12. An operating start and an opening ceremony can therefore appear as different dates without describing different rinks.
For children, check shoe fit and gloves first
The organizer’s FAQ lists skates from 16 to 30 centimetres in one-centimetre increments. Skates are mandatory, so usable fit matters more than assuming that the absence of a fixed minimum age makes every young child eligible.
The recorded rules required gloves and an accompanying guardian for preschool children. Bring suitable gloves to reduce last-minute equipment purchases. Check how an accompanying adult is ticketed, and the new season’s rules, before paying.
| Before leaving | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Check whether a child fits the available skate range | The smallest hire size affects practical participation |
| Prepare gloves for each skater | They were mandatory in the recorded season |
| Deal with meals and toilets first | Unrestricted re-entry is generally unavailable |
| Allow time to change footwear | Arriving at the station at 19:30 is not the same as entering the rink by 19:30 |
The operator generally prohibits re-entry, with necessary toilet trips handled under staff instructions. Do not buy a ticket, leave for dinner and assume it can be reused at will.
Combine skating, evening scenery and Sakae
The rink is at Oasis 21’s Galaxy Plaza, 1-11-1 Higashisakura, Higashi-ku, near Sakae subway station. Use the Nagoya transport guide for the approach from Nagoya Station. The Toyoda name is sponsorship, not an instruction to travel to Toyota City.
For evening lighting, shop earlier, then fit skating and dinner together. Allow roughly an hour to an hour and a half as an itinerary estimate for admission, changing shoes and a short experience, not a fixed session duration. If some companions do not skate, agree where to wait and meet rather than assuming everyone will buy admission.
Oasis 21, nearby park lights and observation-deck activities are separate experiences. Use the Nagoya illumination guide to choose one realistic extension. The Nagoya food guide helps with dinner, while family accommodation areas can simplify the journey home afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Is the rink made from real ice?
No. It uses treated plastic panels and silicone wax, but visitors still wear designated skates.
What is the minimum age?
The organizer makes skate fit the practical requirement, with hire sizes starting at 16 centimetres. Preschool children require a guardian; age alone is not a participation guarantee.
Was skate hire included?
Yes, in the documented 2025–26 prices. Confirm the new season’s inclusions separately.
Are gloves necessary?
The recorded rules required them inside the rink. Prepare suitable gloves and check the new equipment requirements.
Can I leave for dinner and come back?
Unrestricted re-entry is generally not allowed. Necessary exits follow staff instructions, so dinner is better before or after skating.
