Furano Ski Resort 2026: what to decide before booking

For a first ski trip to Furano, the most important decision is not which run to ski first. It is which zone your lesson, rental pickup and accommodation will use.

Furano Ski Resort has two main areas: Furano Zone, beside Shin Furano Prince Hotel and the Furano Ropeway, and Kitanomine Zone, beside the ski village, rental facilities and Kitanomine Gondola. The mountain is connected, but a complete beginner should not assume moving between the two bases will be simple. Confirm the meeting zone with your school first and arrange your equipment around the same base.

Checked: 1 October 2026
The resort plans to operate the 2026–27 season from 28 November 2026 to 5 May 2027, subject to snow and weather. This overall period does not mean every lift, course or both zones will operate throughout the entire season.

For your first Furano ski day, confirm the lesson meeting zone before booking transport. The private lesson and shuttle below are separate products. Check the selected teaching language, age rules, rentals and lift inclusions, plus the bus’s actual hotel stops and date.

2026–27 Furano lift pass prices

The official resort has published its 2026–27 lift pricing. For most overseas visitors, the main comparison is between the standard one-day ticket and the four-hour ticket.

Period / ticket Adult price What to know
28 Nov–4 Dec 2026 day pass JPY 7,500 Early-season price
5 Dec 2026–22 Mar 2027 day pass JPY 9,000 Main-season price
23 Mar–5 May 2027 day pass JPY 7,500 Late/spring-season price
4-hour pass JPY 8,200 Timed from first gate use

Prices above include tax. During the regular JPY 9,000 period, the four-hour ticket saves only JPY 800 compared with a full day, so it makes the most sense when you genuinely have only part of a day to ski.

A standard day ticket generally covers daytime operation from 8:30 until sunset or closing time, with spring operation listed as 9:00–16:00. Do not assume night skiing is automatically included.

SEIBU PRINCE CLUB members have separate published prices of JPY 6,000 / JPY 7,500 / JPY 6,000 across the same three seasonal periods. Use those rates only if you meet the membership conditions.

Children of elementary-school age and younger can receive a free day lift ticket at the ticket counter. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult. The free lift ticket does not make lessons, rentals or other services free, and it should not be interpreted as a general “under 12” policy.

Check the official Furano lift ticket page before purchasing. Some online products still require voucher exchange at the counter, so do not assume every booking supports direct smartphone gate entry.

Furano Zone or Kitanomine Zone?

Zone Useful for Beginner planning point
Furano Zone Shin Furano Prince Hotel side, Furano Ropeway access Convenient if your school, rental and hotel arrangements are based here
Kitanomine Zone Village-side accommodation, lower learner terrain, rentals and gondola Lower area can suit learning, but upper gondola descents are not automatically suitable for first-timers

If you are taking your first lesson, choose the school and meeting zone before selecting where to stay. Staying beside the correct base can save an unnecessary transfer while wearing ski boots and carrying equipment.

More confident skiers can use the mountain connections, but beginners should follow the instructor’s route rather than assuming they can easily cross between zones and return. Lift closing times and the correct final base matter.

Official Furano ski map and live course status

Start with Furano Zone and New Furano Prince Hotel on the left, then Kitanomine Zone and Kitanomine Terminal on the right. Align your lesson meeting point, equipment pickup and shuttle stop around a suitable base. Beginners should not use a connecting trail beyond their ability simply to switch zones. Dates printed on the map belong to the older season; check current official operations.

Furano’s operator currently lists an overall inventory of 28 courses and 11 lifts. Those figures describe the resort as a whole; they are not a promise that 28 courses and 11 lifts will be operating on your ski day.

Open the official Furano course and live-operation page for current lift and run status. You can also open the operator’s enlarged course map PDF.

Weather, wind and snow conditions can change what is open. Furano is known as a winter destination, but powder quality should never be treated as guaranteed for a particular date.

Beginner ski lessons: verified 2026–27 prices

For English-language instruction, Furano Snow School (FSS), operated by Sportpia, has published a specific 2026–27 English tariff. This should not be confused with Furano International Snowsports School or with third-party lesson products.

A useful benchmark is the FSS first-timer group lesson: JPY 13,000 per person for two hours, for participants aged 10 and above. A lesson-and-rental package is listed at JPY 25,000 per person. Depending on snow conditions at the lower slopes, a lift ticket may also be required.

For travellers who want private instruction, the published two-hour FSS price is JPY 27,000 total for one person or JPY 34,000 total for two people. These private rates are totals, not per-person prices.

See the Furano Snow School 2026–27 information for the latest booking conditions.

When booking any lesson, match the correct discipline—ski or snowboard—and keep participants at reasonably similar ability levels. Mixing very different abilities in one booking can compromise what the instructor can cover. Confirm the meeting zone before the lesson; this is particularly important if your hotel or rental shop is on the other side of the resort.

The third-party lesson above currently presents Chinese/English coaching options, but the exact teaching language must be confirmed for the package you select. If Korean or Thai instruction is essential, obtain written confirmation before booking rather than relying on the language of a translated booking page. Also compare meeting zone, ski versus snowboard, participant age, lesson duration, equipment, lift-pass inclusions and cancellation rules for the selected package.

Rentals: match your equipment pickup to your lesson zone

For a beginner, convenient rental logistics matter more than saving a small amount at a shop across town. Try to arrange lesson meeting point, rental pickup and accommodation around the same zone.

Before paying, check exactly what the selected package includes: skis or snowboard, boots, clothing, helmet, gloves and goggles can be treated differently. Do not assume every rental bundle includes every item.

The resort’s official information page is the appropriate place to check current on-site rental details.

Night skiing in Furano

Night skiing is a separate product and uses only limited lifts rather than the whole mountain. The published 2026–27 adult price is JPY 3,100 on weekdays from 16:00–18:00 and JPY 3,900 on weekends, holidays and 26 December–3 January from 16:00–19:30.

Night operation is planned from around mid-December in Furano Zone and from late December in Kitanomine Zone, through 21 March 2027. Actual operation remains dependent on the day’s lift schedule and conditions.

What about non-skiers?

A non-skier does not automatically need a full ski pass. Furano lists a JPY 3,700 sightseeing return ticket; this is for sightseeing transport and is not an unlimited skiing ticket.

Ningle Terrace is another straightforward option near Shin Furano Prince Hotel for someone who does not plan to spend the entire day on the slopes.

Getting to Furano Ski Resort

JR Furano Station is not at the ski slopes. The resort’s official access information estimates the station-to-resort trip at about 6 km and approximately 12 minutes by taxi. Treat that as a normal-condition estimate rather than a guaranteed winter journey time.

By rail, routes reach Furano via Asahikawa or Takikawa. JR Hokkaido limited express trains use reserved seating. There is currently no direct JR train from Obihiro to Furano.

If travelling from Sapporo, the highway Furano bus reaches the Furano Station area; it should not be treated as an automatic ski-resort-front-door transfer. For more planning options, see our Sapporo to Furano and Biei transport guide.

The Lavender-go route connects Asahikawa/Asahikawa Airport with Shin Furano Prince Hotel, while winter resort transfers are also sold from New Chitose Airport. Check the actual stop attached to your booking because not every service stops at every hotel.

The transfer product above offers separate one-way routes between New Chitose Airport and Furano and between Sapporo and Furano. A date visible in the booking calendar is not necessarily the first service date of the season. Stop lists vary by selected service and may include hotels such as New Furano Prince, Naturwald, EdelWarme or Natulux rather than every accommodation in Furano.

If carrying skis or a snowboard, declare the equipment and check the permitted luggage count and dimensions. For an airport arrival, leave a sensible buffer for immigration and baggage collection: do not assume a bus will wait for a delayed flight or that a missed departure automatically qualifies for a free change or refund.

For a fuller New Chitose Airport comparison, see New Chitose Airport to Furano and Biei.

Is it worth staying overnight?

Yes for most complete beginners. A same-day trip can work for a short ski session, but an overnight stay removes much of the pressure created by airport transfers, rental fitting and lesson check-in.

A realistic two-night outline is:

  • Arrival day: reach Furano, check in and confirm the next day’s lesson zone and rental arrangements.
  • Main ski day: collect equipment at the correct base, take the lesson, then practise only on terrain appropriate to your ability.
  • Departure day: use the morning for another short ski session or sightseeing before leaving Furano.

There is no universal minimum stay. Travellers who already ski confidently can compress the trip more easily; first-timers benefit most from avoiding too many transport and equipment tasks on the lesson morning.

Furano Ski Resort FAQ

Can a complete beginner take the Kitanomine Gondola?
Do not treat the gondola itself as a beginner recommendation. The lower Kitanomine area has learner terrain, but upper descents are not automatically suitable for someone skiing for the first time. Follow your instructor’s route.

Do children ski free at Furano?
Elementary-school-age children and younger can collect a free day lift ticket at the ticket counter, with preschool children accompanied by an adult. Lessons and rentals remain separate paid services.

Should I buy a one-day or four-hour lift pass?
During the main JPY 9,000 season, the four-hour ticket is JPY 8,200, only JPY 800 less. Choose the four-hour product for a genuinely short session rather than assuming it is always the better-value option.

Can I walk from Furano Station to the ski resort?
The station is separate from the slopes. The operator estimates approximately 6 km and 12 minutes by taxi, so plan a last-mile transfer rather than treating the station as the resort base.

Which Furano zone should a first-timer choose?
Choose the zone used by your lesson provider, then match your rental pickup and ideally your accommodation to that same side. This is usually more useful than choosing a base solely from the piste map.

Does a non-skier need a full lift pass to ride up the mountain?
Not necessarily. The resort lists a separate JPY 3,700 sightseeing return ticket. Check operating conditions on the day because sightseeing transport is not equivalent to an unlimited ski pass.

Who Furano works best for

First-timers and families: book the lesson first, confirm the meeting zone, then organise equipment and accommodation around it. The free day lift ticket for elementary-school-age children and younger can reduce lift costs, but lessons and rentals still need their own budget.

Intermediate and confident skiers: use the official map to understand the Furano–Kitanomine layout, then check the live operation page each morning rather than planning around the headline 28-course, 11-lift inventory.

Short-stay visitors: keep the trip focused. Furano works much better when a one- or two-day ski visit is not overloaded with distant sightseeing, multiple rental locations and unnecessary transfers between bases.

For the 2026–27 season, the practical order is simple: choose your lesson zone, confirm the current course map and lift status, arrange matching rentals, then buy the lift product that fits the actual time you expect to ski.
