Ogaki’s Hanamizuki Street illumination is best for visitors who enjoy local streets and handmade community displays rather than a ticketed theme-park atmosphere. Buildings and walls along the road from National Route 21 towards Mangoku-cho are decorated by participating residents and businesses.

One distinctive 2025 feature was Ibikogyo’s Ibuki-maru gravel-extraction boat display, created for the company’s eightieth anniversary alongside its customary illuminated zelkova tree. That link to local industry gives the street a story beyond simply being another road with Christmas lights. A short visit around the Mangoku end can be enough; walking the entire corridor is not a requirement.

Dates, hours and the actual area

The 2025–26 Ogaki illumination map records November 25, 2025–January 13, 2026, with lighting from 17:00 to 21:30. It defines the area as Hanamizuki Street between National Route 21 and the Mangoku-cho district, with decorations on buildings and walls contributed by people along the road.

The overall season does not establish that every private display was present and lit on every date. In particular, the company introduced Ibuki-maru in a notice dated December 11, 2025. That is not proof that the boat had already been fully displayed from November 25.

Hanamizuki refers to the street’s dogwoods, not a promise of winter flowers. Spring blossom photographs and December illumination are different seasonal attractions.

The boat, the zelkova and the community behind the lights

Ibikogyo’s December 11, 2025 announcement explains that the gravel-extraction boat commemorated its eightieth anniversary and recalled the company’s origins. The attraction was therefore not simply decorative: it translated part of the area’s industrial history into a handmade seasonal object.

The same notice mentions the customary decoration of a zelkova tree. The tree and boat are separate elements, not one giant Christmas tree, and the announcement gives neither a height nor a bulb count. The anniversary boat is a documented feature of 2025, not a guaranteed permanent installation.

Hanamizuki Street is an approximately two-kilometre municipal road running north–south west of Ogaki Forum Hotel. Its development included the donation and planting of 640 American dogwoods and 45 streetlights. Those numbers concern the development of the street, not the number of illuminated trees or event objects.

Local cleaning and summer watering are part of the community’s year-round care for the street. That background helps explain the appeal: this is an everyday neighbourhood cared for by its community, not a seasonal set built solely for visitors. Admire business and residential displays from permitted public routes without entering private grounds.

Choose a short stop or a longer street walk

The road’s approximately two-kilometre length does not mean every metre has an unbroken canopy of lights. In cold weather, choosing an interesting section is more useful than treating the whole corridor as a checklist.

Approach Best for Main consideration
Mangoku-end short visit Company displays and a hotel meal Use the Forum Hotel and Ibikogyo area as a geographic reference
A longer street walk Comparing individual household and business decorations Decide where to turn back and account for the return distance
Combined with Softopia Visitors already driving or using taxis in eastern Ogaki Separate transfer time, parking and Softopia’s earlier finish
Return trip from Ogaki Station Rail travellers Choose the return bus before deciding the visit length

Allow roughly twenty to thirty minutes for a focused short stop, with longer for a broader walk and photographs. If walking the entire road, remember that returning to the starting point adds distance.

Photograph the street’s depth from a position that leaves the pavement clear. It remains a working road: do not stand in traffic for a symmetrical picture or cross a private boundary to improve the angle.

Getting to the Mangoku end

Ogaki Forum Hotel’s access guide provides a useful route to this end of the street. From JR Ogaki Station’s south exit, board a Meihan Kintetsu Bus Gien Line service at stop 2 towards Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University and alight at Mangoku, approximately twenty minutes away.

This reaches one end of the area; it is not an event shuttle covering the whole illuminated road. The hotel also gives approximate taxi times of ten minutes from Ogaki Station, ten minutes from Hozumi Station and twenty minutes from Gifu-Hashima Shinkansen Station.

Check the bus operator’s route information for the actual travel date and return direction. Lighting until 21:30 does not prove that a convenient bus remains afterwards. If visiting after dinner, arrange the return in advance rather than discovering the available service at the stop.

For the Nagoya end of the journey, the Nagoya transport guide helps with journey planning. Groups also visiting other parts of western Gifu can compare a full day’s driving costs through the Nagoya car-rental guide.

Parking and food: distinguish hotel facilities from public event provision

Forum Hotel publishes 350 free parking spaces and approximate driving times of twenty minutes from Ogaki or Hashima interchange and twelve minutes from Anpachi Smart interchange. These are the hotel’s facilities, not a promise of unrestricted public parking for the entire illumination street. If dining or staying there, follow its usage conditions; lights-only visitors should identify a permitted parking option rather than assume access.

The Forum Hotel facilities listing describes Japanese, Western and Chinese dining and a bowling facility. A meal can make the stop more substantial, but check the chosen restaurant’s hours and booking arrangements separately. A hotel having restaurants does not mean a table or service is available throughout the illumination hours.

Come for neighbourhood decorations rather than expecting a food-truck market. Plan food, toilets and indoor breaks around facilities you can actually use, particularly with young children, instead of leaving dinner until the lights finish.

Combining it with Softopia or central Ogaki

The Softopia organiser’s page also identifies Hanamizuki as a simultaneous local illumination, but the two have separate locations and schedules. In 2025, Softopia finished at 20:30 and ended on December 25. Hanamizuki ran until 21:30 and continued to January 13, 2026. Castle-town Ogaki, focused on the station and central streets, ran 17:00–21:00 through January 31.

Photographers might choose two contrasting settings: modern architecture at Softopia and community displays along Hanamizuki. Rail travellers may prefer to finish near Ogaki Station so that the final part of the evening is close to the train. A shared city name does not make the three events a tightly connected pedestrian route.

For visitors based in Nagoya, compare Nagoya’s winter illuminations before travelling out purely for scale. Hanamizuki’s strength is its local character, not a vast purpose-built light park. Keep accommodation aligned with the wider trip using the Nagoya hotel-area guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hanamizuki Street immediately outside Ogaki Station?

No. The illumination corridor is towards National Route 21 and Mangoku-cho. A bus from south-exit stop 2 reaches the Mangoku end.

Is the Ibuki-maru boat displayed every year?

It marked the company’s eightieth anniversary in 2025, rather than being a fixed annual feature. Its return in a future season is still pending.

Are all 640 dogwoods illuminated?

The number refers to historical planting described by the company, not an event lighting count or a continuous illuminated route.

Can any lights visitor use the hotel’s free parking?

The hotel publishes its own parking provision, not unrestricted parking for the street event. Follow the hotel’s conditions or use another permitted option.

Can the old dates be used for late 2026?

No. The past season ran November 25, 2025–January 13, 2026. The next edition needs its own announcement.
