The late-2026 illumination schedule is still pending. Looking back at 2025, Softopia Japan Winter Fantasy was a good choice for an evening walk among modern architecture rather than a large Christmas market. Its main setting is the Seseragi water-stage area east of the Center Building, with further lighting around entrances to participating businesses in Ogaki’s information-industry district.

It suits visitors already staying, working or driving in Ogaki. Travellers relying on public transport should plan the return journey before combining it with other illuminations. This is a separate destination from the displays outside Ogaki Station, not another corner of the same station plaza.

Dates, hours and the one-day opening ceremony

Both the organising committee and Softopia Japan Center’s announcement give November 27–December 25, 2025, with lighting from 17:00 to 20:30. The organiser explicitly welcomes the general public and lists admission as free.

Historical 2025 information Details
Season November 27–December 25
Daily illumination 17:00–20:30
Opening ceremony November 27, 17:30–17:45
Ceremony venue Komyuresu Mino Misho, Center Building 1F
Main outdoor locations East Seseragi Stage area and participating company entrances
Admission Free; transport, parking and food are separate
Center Building address 4-1-7 Kagano, Ogaki, Gifu

The fifteen-minute ceremony was an opening-day event, not a daily performance. It also had a specific first-floor venue: do not assume that the outdoor water stage was the ceremony meeting point.

The season ended on Christmas Day. Its name did not imply illumination throughout January or February. Other Ogaki displays continued longer, but their dates cannot be transferred to Softopia.

What makes the setting different?

Softopia Japan was established in 1996 as an information-industry hub. The facility overview describes a district of offices, meeting and exhibition spaces, the Information Workshop, Dream Core and Workshop24. The modern buildings give its winter lighting a different backdrop from Ogaki’s castle-town streets.

The organiser places light objects and decorative lighting around the east Seseragi Stage and company entrances. Start by locating the Center Building, then find its east-side water landscape and follow the publicly open pedestrian routes. The illumination does not turn every office building into a visitor attraction or grant access to business interiors.

For photographs, try an unobstructed position that includes both the architecture and the lighting before moving closer for details. Where water and reflections are visible, change your angle from the permitted path rather than stepping over a boundary. Keep tripods out of narrow routes and entrances.

The Center’s announcement labels its photographs as views from the previous year. They illustrate the atmosphere, not a guarantee that every object, colour and arrangement will recur. Allow roughly thirty to forty-five minutes for a straightforward visit, then adjust for weather and interest in photography. Allow longer if taking photographs or walking with children.

Reaching Softopia from Ogaki Station

The Softopia access page gives approximately fifteen minutes by bus from JR Ogaki Station, boarding at south-exit stop 3. It also gives about ten minutes by car. When checking Meihan Kintetsu Bus, look for the Softopia and Hashima lines and confirm that the individual service calls at Softopia Japan.

Starting point Reference journey time
JR Ogaki Station Bus from south-exit stop 3, about 15 minutes; car about 10 minutes
JR Nagoya Station Rapid train to Ogaki, about 30 minutes, then the local connection
Gifu-Hashima Shinkansen Station Bus about 40 minutes; car about 20 minutes
Ogaki, Anpachi Smart, Gifu-Hashima or Ogaki-Nishi interchange About 20 minutes by car

These are venue-provided estimates, not guaranteed journey times for every service or traffic condition. Nagoya’s approximately thirty-minute rail journey does not include waiting, transferring or walking from the bus stop to the lights.

Use the bus operator’s route search for the travel date, distinguishing weekday and weekend/holiday schedules. Choose the return departure before setting out. The lights ending at 20:30 does not mean a convenient bus will leave afterwards.

A taxi can be worth comparing for families, a small group or anyone who would otherwise spend a long time waiting outdoors. Do not assume that reaching Ogaki by train also makes every outlying illumination equally convenient on foot.

Underground parking: inexpensive short stays, a firm closing time

The Center Building’s underground car park operates 08:00–22:00. The parking charges are free for up to twenty minutes, ¥120 for more than twenty minutes through three hours, then another ¥120 per thirty minutes. For stays exceeding seven hours and up to twenty-four hours, the charge is ¥1,200; longer stays incur further half-hour charges.

A one-hour lights visit falls within the ¥120 short-stay band. A car left there since the afternoon may not. Calculate from the actual entry time and return before 22:00 rather than treating the facility as unrestricted overnight parking.

The payment equipment accepts ¥1,000 notes and coins of ¥10 or more, and there is no change-making service. Carry suitable cash. If leaving the car while visiting another district, include the extra parking time and the journey back; cheap parking does not remove the distance between events.

Softopia, Hanamizuki Street or central Ogaki?

The city illumination map distinguishes three areas. Their 2025 seasons overlapped, but their closing times and layouts differed.

Area Historical 2025–2026 schedule Best reason to choose it
Softopia Winter Fantasy November 27–December 25, 17:00–20:30 Modern buildings and the water-stage setting
Hanamizuki Street November 25–January 13, 17:00–21:30 Community and business displays along a road corridor
Castle-town Ogaki November 7–January 31, 17:00–21:00 Station plazas and a walk through central streets

For a two-stop evening, Softopia’s earlier finish can make it a sensible first stop. However, allow for transport and dinner rather than assuming the thirty-minute difference between closing times lets you see everything. Travellers returning to Nagoya by rail may find it easier to finish near Ogaki Station.

The three areas are not necessarily a few minutes apart just because they share a map. Choosing one main area is a reasonable decision, especially with children or in poor weather. There is no need to turn a pleasant evening walk into a race against several closing times.

Food, weather and where to stay

The Center Building has everyday facilities including food outlets and shops, but their presence does not mean they remain open throughout the illumination. The winter notice is also not a daily Christmas-market or food-truck programme. Check a specific outlet’s hours or eat near Ogaki Station before travelling out.

The main viewing area is outdoors. Dress for a stationary winter evening as well as walking, and shorten the route when rain, wind or slippery ground make it uncomfortable. Offices and hired meeting rooms are not automatically public shelters; use only clearly available common areas.

Compare the rail portion using the Nagoya transport guide and the driving option using Nagoya car-rental planning. If avoiding an intercity trip is more important, consider Nagoya’s own winter illuminations. Keep accommodation aligned with the wider itinerary using the Nagoya hotel-area guide; a short lights visit alone rarely calls for changing hotels.
