Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will not hold their special New Year’s Eve event on December 31, 2026. If your plan is to stay inside a park for a midnight countdown, old videos and previous years’ ticket guides will lead you in the wrong direction. The confirmed New Year’s special programme runs from January 1 to 11, 2027.

The announcement concerns the special evening event. It does not say that both parks are closed all day on December 31. Treat an ordinary December 31 visit and a January New Year visit as separate plans, each with its own dated ticket and operating calendar. Times below are Japan Standard Time.

Christmas, New Year’s Eve and January: choose the right dates

Your main reason for visiting Confirmed dates Planning implication
Disney Christmas November 11–December 25, 2026 Visit within the Christmas event period for its seasonal programme
Special New Year’s Eve event Not held on December 31, 2026 Do not buy a purported ticket for this midnight event at either park
New Year’s special programme January 1–11, 2027 Select a valid admission date and park within this period

December 26–31 is not an extension of the Christmas event or an early start to January’s programme. If those are your only travel dates, decide whether the attractions and scheduled entertainment still justify a park day for you. Moving the visit by a day can matter more than buying an extra in-park service.

For the earlier seasonal programme, our Tokyo Disney Christmas guide compares the two parks. Its Christmas show schedule should not be used for a January visit.

Ticket release dates: choose the date and park before comparing prices

The current standard sales rule releases tickets at 2 p.m. for the same date two months later. Under that rule, December 31 admission corresponds to October 31 at 2 p.m.; January 1 corresponds to November 1; and January 11 to November 11. These dates are calculated from the regular rule, so check the official sales calendar before relying on them.

A 1-Day Passport specifies an admission date and one park. Write both down before comparing sellers. Prices vary by date, so a headline minimum price is not a New Year’s Day quotation. A date that has not opened for sale should not be mistaken for a sellout.

Use the official ticket calendar to check sales. On a third-party platform, inspect the selected park, visit date, redemption method and cancellation conditions. A listing called “Tokyo Disney tickets” does not establish entitlement to any midnight event.

Disneyland or DisneySea for a New Year visit?

With one day, start with three attractions or settings you most want to experience. Disneyland is the natural place to research if your priorities are its castle, classic streets and parade-route setting. Start with DisneySea if its harbor scenery, themed ports and specific rides are the attraction. Height restrictions, tolerance for thrill rides and the group’s need for breaks are more useful than assuming one park is automatically for families or couples.

The confirmed January dates are not a complete daily entertainment timetable. Avoid filling your plan with last year’s character costumes, appearance times or menus. Once you have selected your visit date, use the official app and daily schedule to place your highest-priority programme first, then add nearby attractions and meals.

If both parks matter, two separate park days are easier to plan. Do not assume a single-park 1-Day Passport lets you move freely between them.

Access and maps: plan the return journey too

JR Maihama Station, served by the Keiyo and Musashino lines, is the main rail gateway. Tokyo Disney Resort is in Urayasu, Chiba, so judge a hotel’s location by the journey you will actually make rather than the word “Tokyo” in its description.

Use the Disneyland map, DisneySea map and resort access guide to identify entrances, breaks and the route back. A general park map is an orientation tool, not a New Year 2027 reserved-viewing plan.

If you want a separate countdown after leaving on December 31, verify that event’s dates, admission and final transport connection independently. Do not base the night on an assumed all-night train or monorail service.

Two workable holiday plans

You want the January New Year programme

Use December 31 for travel, hotel check-in and dinner, then visit on January 1 or another date through January 11. A proper night’s sleep is a better foundation for a winter park day than arriving after an overnight celebration. Unless January 1 itself is essential, compare room costs and available ticket dates across the event period.

December 31 is your only available park day

Plan around that day’s published hours. Leave space for meals and getting between attractions, then arrange an evening you can realistically complete after leaving. Do not reserve a block of time for waiting at the castle until midnight or expect January’s New Year programme a day early.

For two consecutive park days, compare hotels near Maihama by the actual entrance-to-hotel journey. For a broader Tokyo trip, compare the full daily commute from a city base. Check each room package for admission, breakfast and transport inclusions; the hotel’s affiliation alone does not tell you what your booking includes.

Final checks before you travel

  • Correct ticket date and park
  • Updated opening hours and your chosen show’s schedule
  • Accessible mobile ticket, official app, battery power and data
  • A warm meal or indoor break and an early-exit option for your group
  • A verified final transport connection and hotel check-in arrangement

Frequently asked questions

Can I join a midnight countdown inside either park on December 31, 2026?

The special New Year’s Eve event will not be held. Do not buy admission on the assumption that it includes an in-park midnight celebration.

Does that mean the parks are closed on December 31?

No. The notice addresses the special event. Check each park’s operating calendar separately for ordinary daytime admission.

Is the New Year programme only on January 1?

No. The announced period is January 1–11, 2027. Check the schedule for your particular day.

Do I need a New Year’s Eve ticket for a January visit?

Start with admission valid for your January date and chosen park. Check any separate reservation or payment requirement for individual services rather than treating January’s programme as a December 31 overnight party.
