Tokyo Midtown Christmas 2026 has three important finish dates: bubbles and the new lounge end December 20, the main illumination and Christmas tree end December 25, and the golden walkway and ice rink continue until February 23 of the following year. Arriving on Christmas Eve is too late if bubbles are your main reason for visiting.

This guide covers Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, not the Hibiya or Yaesu properties and not Roppongi Hills. It suits visitors seeking a light sequence, a real fir tree and indoor seasonal activities. The small indoor gift market should not be mistaken for a large outdoor food market.

Different components, different dates

The Christmas calendar confirms a November 26–December 25 main season under the concept Midwinter Night’s Dream.

Component Dates Practical distinction
MIDWINTER LIGHTS November 26–December 25 Free, 17:00–23:00
Bubble effect November 26–December 20 Announced every four minutes
THE DREAMING TREE November 26–December 25 Free, 17:00–23:00
MIDWINTER LOUNGE November 26–December 20 Food or drink purchase required
Golden light walkway November 26, 2026–February 23, 2027 Free, normally 17:00–23:00
RALPH LAUREN MIDTOWN ICE RINK December 5, 2026–February 23, 2027 Separate charge; closed January 1

December 5–20 is the useful overlap if your group wants lights, the lounge and skating. A January visit still works for winter walking or the rink, but not for the complete Christmas installation.

Bubbles and the real fir tree

The detailed Christmas programme describes a roughly four-minute light sequence with original music, drawing on a snowy forest, Christmas streets and an aurora-filled winter sky.

Watch a full cycle before filming. Understanding the colour changes helps you choose between a portrait and a wide view without repeatedly moving through other visitors. Bubbles are an additional outdoor effect, not a guarantee that every promotional composition can be recreated on demand.

THE DREAMING TREE uses an approximately 8.5-metre real fir, with gold and changing colours. Give it a separate pause; the tree is a focal point, while the golden walkway is better experienced as a continuous stroll.

The lounge is not a free viewing platform

MIDWINTER LOUNGE has an approximately 1.5-metre raised deck plus standing and seated areas beside the lawn. Entry requires buying food or drink.

Lounge detail Announced arrangement
Weekdays 16:00–22:00
Saturdays and Sundays 15:00–22:00
Last order 21:30
Final day December 20

The main lights begin at 17:00, later than lounge opening. Arrive earlier for refreshments, not because you expect the illumination to start early. Ordinary free viewing remains a complete option if you do not want a food or drink stop.

Skating: rental is extra

The real-ice rink starts December 5, later than the main Christmas opening. Announced hours are 11:00–21:00, with reception until 20:00; January 1 is closed. The ice surface measures approximately 20 by 42 metres.

Skating charge Ordinary period Special holiday period
High-school age and older ¥2,000 ¥2,300
Junior-high age and younger ¥1,400 ¥1,700
Skate rental Add ¥500 Add ¥500

The special period is December 12, 2026–January 3, 2027, not simply every weekend. An adult renting skates therefore pays ¥2,500 ordinarily or ¥2,800 during that period. Visitors only viewing the lights do not need a rink purchase.

Indoor gifts, stamps and live music

The Galleria basement Christmas Marche runs November 26–December 25, 11:00–21:00. Announced shops include HARMONIER, Nordika nisse Tokyo and Hale Marche, focusing on seasonal goods and accessories rather than a large outdoor food offering.

A Santa-themed layered-stamp activity creates a postcard during the same period. It can break up an evening for children who would not enjoy standing outdoors throughout.

Free CHRISTMAS ENSEMBLE performances are scheduled for December 12–13 at 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, approximately 30 minutes each, outside lucien pellat-finet on Galleria Floor 2. Use these particular days to combine afternoon browsing, music and evening lights; performances are not advertised as daily.

Access and the one-off pre-season closure

The Midtown access guide lists a direct connection from Oedo Line Roppongi Station Exit 8. The Hibiya Line underground approach contains stairs, so the operator recommends the Oedo Line for wheelchair and stroller users. Nogizaka Exit 3 is approximately three minutes away on foot.

A construction notice announces closure on November 21–23, 2026 and a 14:00 close on November 20, with some facility exceptions. This is before the November 26 Christmas opening; old assumptions about a mid-November display are not reliable for this edition.

Allow roughly 60–90 minutes for Midtown viewing, adding time for food, skating or music. Use the Roppongi-area route comparison if also visiting Keyakizaka, without making both districts compulsory.

For other evenings, compare Tokyo winter illuminations and Tokyo Christmas markets. Choose transport products according to your whole day’s travel, using the Tokyo transport guide, rather than buying a package for free light viewing.
