Tokyo Skytree at Christmas is easier to plan when you first decide whether you want to go up the tower. The market, outdoor illuminations, seasonal tower lighting and Tembo Deck displays can share one visit, but they have different locations, schedules and admission requirements.

The 2026 Dream Christmas programme uses gold and stars, with an eight-metre outdoor tree, a light dome and music inside the observation deck. A casual market stop and an evening with reserved tower admission should not be planned in exactly the same way.

Market first, or dinner first?

The Sky Arena market has a storybook theme, European-style huts, Santa and snowman food designs, and an advertised giant stollen project. The eight-metre WISH UPON A STAR TREE is another outdoor highlight, alongside the town’s dome and light corridor.

Decide whether the market is dinner or a snack stop before joining a queue. Groups with different appetites or dietary needs may find it easier to eat in the shopping complex first, then choose one market treat each. That also leaves hands free for photographs rather than requiring everyone to carry hot food while searching for a viewpoint.

A tower observation ticket is not needed simply to look at the tower from outside. Check that you are following signs for the outdoor plaza rather than accidentally joining the deck-admission queue.

Seasonal tower lighting has exceptions

Ornament Tree, Elegant Tree and Santa Claus normally rotate approximately every 15 minutes, from 17:30 to 22:00. December 24–25 extend to midnight. Opening day starts around 18:20 and initially uses only Elegant Tree.

The advertised exclusions are November 7 and 12, and December 1, 5, 6, 9, 12 and 19. Check the seasonal lighting calendar if a particular colour is the reason for your visit. Outside the Christmas-light hours, ordinary tower lighting may replace the seasonal rotation.

Allow a colour-change cycle rather than leaving after the first photograph. With a phone, a clean lens and a steady position matter more than rushing between viewpoints; keep entrances and pedestrian paths clear.

Going up: deck displays and Candlelight

Floor 350 has stars and ribbon-themed settings; Floor 340 provides a circular-window photo spot. Choose the appropriate admission through the deck ticket information. The outdoor market is not a combined ticket that automatically includes these areas.

On December 24 and 25, Candlelight classical performances take place on Floor 350 at 18:00–18:30 and 20:00–20:30. There is no additional performance charge, but Tembo Deck admission is required. No audience seats are provided, and crowd restrictions may apply.

Treat this as a possible enhancement to a tower visit, not a guaranteed seated concert. If someone in your group cannot comfortably stand for long, prioritise the view and displays. Avoid booking an arrival so close to the performance that an ordinary queue ruins the plan.

The fifth-floor tree is a separate stop

The birch-inspired tree at SKYTREE SHOP continues until February 24, 2027. It is not the eight-metre outdoor tree at Sky Arena.

Organise your visit by level: outdoor market and main tree together, the fifth-floor shop tree as another stop, and the high-level displays together if you are ascending. Similar Christmas names do not mean everything is visible from one location.

A practical Asakusa and Skytree plan

Priority Suggested approach
Market and outdoor lights Allow roughly 60–90 minutes, excluding a full dinner
Market plus observation deck Fix the tower-entry time first; allow a flexible half-day
Fifth-floor tree only Make it a short shop-hours stop rather than waiting for the market

Adjust these suggested durations to queues, meals and your group. Use the Skytree access guide to choose Oshiage or Tokyo Skytree Station, then follow the correct floor signs.

For a wider day, explore Asakusa and Sensoji before the evening visit. Do not insist on walking between every stop if the weather is poor or the group is tired. The Skytree guide explains the attraction, while the Tokyo winter-light guide helps compare districts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see Christmas lights without a deck ticket?

Yes, you can plan around the outdoor town displays and tower exterior. Deck displays and performances require observation admission.

Does Candlelight require a separate concert ticket?

The announcement lists no additional concert fee for deck visitors. It is standing, with possible crowd restrictions.

Is the Christmas market open on December 26?

The announced market ends on December 25. Later illumination dates do not extend it.

Which tree continues into February?

The fifth-floor SKYTREE SHOP birch-inspired tree is advertised until February 24, 2027. Do not confuse it with the outdoor main tree.
